Awards to the winners of "Design Competition for Hong Kong Observatory Tide Gauge Station at Tai Po Kau, New Territories"

The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO), in collaboration with the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD), the Architectural Services Department (ArchSD), and the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA), has organized the "Design Competition for Hong Kong Observatory Tide Gauge Station at Tai Po Kau, New Territories" last year. The award presentation was held in the HKIA 1st Quarterly General Meeting 2021 last night (18 March 2021). The Director of the Observatory, Dr. Cheng Cho Ming, and representatives of the co-organizers presented the awards to the First, Second and Third Prizes and three Commendations winners.

Dr. Cheng also presented a talk entitled "Climate Change and Tide Measurement" in the meeting. Information which covered climate change, the impact of sea level rise and storm surges in Hong Kong and the importance of tide measurement, etc. was shared with the HKIA members.

Tai Po Kau tide gauge station has been operated for almost 60 years and is preparing for reconstruction. There were 45 entries of the design competition with each entry having its own characteristics. The winning and submitted entries can be viewed from the webpage of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA).
