The Observatory winning the Honorable Mention in the Autodesk Hong Kong BIM Awards 2019
17 February 2020
The Observatory’s project on “Development of a three-dimensional (3-D) BIM model for the Tate’s Cairn Weather Radar Station (TCWRS) for enhancing education, training, calibration and maintenance of the radar system” was awarded the Honorable Mention under the professional category in the Autodesk Hong Kong Building Information Modelling Awards (BIM Awards) 2019, which is the second award for the project. As indicated in the BIM advisors’ comments, the project is a new application of BIM for weather radar. Unlike a conventional building structure, it is not a common standard practice and is more difficult to develop a BIM for a radar system. The use of BIM facilitated the implementation of paperless workflow in radar maintenance and time-saving in performing routine maintenance could be achieved. The annual BIM Awards aims at recognizing professionals and educators in the building industry, who are driving the industry’s transformation through the use of BIM, and shaping the industry towards a more efficient and sustainable era.
