Public Course on Weather Observation Received Enthusiastic Response

10 January 2020

The Public Course on Weather Observation organised by the Hong Kong Observatory successfully concluded on 21 December 2019. This was the eleventh time since 2004 that the Observatory had organised such course. This time, the course received particularly enthusiastic response from the public. The number of applications was over a thousand, more than double that of last time. During the two half-day lectures and practices, around 130 participants have increased understanding of the basic weather observation methods and techniques such as identification of different types of clouds, various weather phenomena and hazards, the working principles of meteorological equipment, the interpretation of weather charts, and the use of weather observations in weather forecasting.

The participants expressed appreciation for the rich contents of the course, the professionalism of the instructors and their vivid presentations. After completing this course, they can still continue participating in cloud appreciation activities and share their weather photos and observation reports on the platform of the Community Weather Observing Scheme (co-win.org/index.php/en or www.facebook.com/icwos).
