Weather of Victoria Harbour at Your fingertips
(14 July 2006)

The Hong Kong Observatory has installed network cameras at its Tsim Sha Tsui Headquarters, Central and Peng Chau weather stations to take weather photos of Victoria Harbour.

Weather photos taken from these locations, together with those from other places, are now available on the Observatory's website:
http://www.weather.gov.hk/wxinfo/ts/index_e_webcam.htm

The public and tourists can also use mobile phones or personal digital assistants to browse the following websites to see the weather photos:

Peng Chau Weather Station (looking east):

The visibility of the harbour can also be gauged from the weather photos, because the distance of the camera from some well-known landmarks is also shown on the webpage. As an example, the landmarks as viewed from the camera at Peng Chau (looking east) are listed below:

Victoria Harbour is located at the heart of Hong Kong, separating Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. Areas on both sides of the harbour house the commercial and administrative centre of the city, and also tourist and shopping hot spots. As such, changes in the weather affect thousands of people every day. As the economy continues to grow, air and marine traffic in the harbour is becoming ever more busy, and information on harbour visibility is becoming more important to the operation of vessels and helicopters there.
