"Hong Kong Observatory Calendar 2003" is now on sale

(28 November 2002)

The Hong Kong Observatory Calendar 2003 is now available for sale to the public. The theme of the Calendar is "Hong Kong Observatory 120th Anniversary".

The Hong Kong Observatory was established in the opportune time in 1883 when the foundation of meteorology was laid and meteorological research was being done in earnest worldwide, setting the scene for the Observatory's scientific advancement and development of service.

The calendar depicts the evolution of the services of the Hong Kong Observatory through the changing circumstances and in response to the expectations of the local and international communities in the past 120 years.

The calendar contains useful geophysical information such as rising/setting times of the sun and moon, tide and monthly climatological normals and extremes. Telephone numbers and web-sites for enquiries on weather and other geophysical information are also listed in the calendar.

This beautifully printed and attractively presented calendar would be an excellent gift to friends and relatives for Christmas and the New Year. The calendar is now on sale at HK$32 a copy at the Government Publications Centre (Tel : 25371910) and the Hong Kong Observatory Resource Centre (Tel : 29268250).
