Cold Weather over the weekend and Christmas holidays (20 December 2001)

Cold weather is expected over the weekend and Christmas holidays with morning temperatures in the vicinity of 10 degrees over parts of Hong Kong.

An intense winter monsoon will reach the south China coast tonight (20 December, Thursday). Winds in Hong Kong will strengthen from the north. Temperatures will fall from about 18 degrees tonight to around 12 degrees tomorrow night (21 December, Friday). The weather will clear up tomorrow as dry continental air sets in. Temperature will fall further in the next couple of days.

The Hong Kong Observatory reminds the public to take note of the weather changes and to prepare for the cold weather, such as making ready warm clothing, checking heating devices and to take steps to protect themselves against cold weather. Because of the dry weather, the public should pay attention to fire precautions.
