Observatory launches new temperature station in Stanley
(12 June 2009)

The Hong Kong Observatory today (12 June) launched a new automatic temperature station in Stanley.  The new station, replacing the one at Bluff Head near Stanley, is located inside Stanley Prison.  Situated about 800 metres from the Stanley town centre, it is close to people.  The public can now access the temperature information from the new station by a variety of means, including the Hong Kong Observatory's website and the dial-a-weather service.

Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, Dr Lee Boon-ying, said, "The Observatory is grateful to the Correctional Services Department for its full support and co-operation which enable the successful relocation of the temperature station to a place near the town centre in Stanley.  The station can provide more representative temperature information to the public.  Data measured by the new station can better reflect the temperature variation felt by the residents and visitors in Stanley."

The new station in Stanley provides the latest temperature readings round-the-clock. The public can access the information from the Observatory's "Regional Weather" webpage (http://www.hko.gov.hk/wxinfo/ts/display_graph_e.htm?sty&menu=otherwxi&rwx&addbar) or PDA webpage (http://pda.hko.gov.hk/regione_s.htm). They can also call the Observatory's "Dial-a-Weather" hotline at 187 8200.
