  • Observatory adds real-time temperature information at Tai Mei Tuk

The Hong Kong Observatory has further enhanced its regional weather information service on its website by providing real-time air temperatures of the Tai Mei Tuk automatic weather station starting from today (December 30).

Tai Mei Tuk is located in Tai Po District in the northeastern part of the New Territories. It is close to Plover Cove Reservoir and Pat Sin Leng Country Park. With several water sports and training centres nearby, Tai Mei Tuk is a tourist hotspot for various outdoor recreational activities. In recent years, the population in the vicinity of Tai Mei Tuk has been on the rise. The newly added real-time temperature information of the automatic weather station located at the Hong Kong Police Force Tai Mei Tuk Activity Training Centre, together with the wind speed and wind direction data already provided by the station, enable the public to better comprehend the latest weather conditions over the northeastern part of the New Territories.

The Camp Manager at the Tai Mei Tuk Sea Activity Centre of the Scout Association of Hong Kong, Mr Rock Shek, welcomed the Observatory's initiative to provide real-time weather information of the Tai Mei Tuk automatic weather station. "The Tai Mei Tuk automatic weather station provides vital information for the Sea Activity Centre in organising various training activities and competitions", he said.

A spokesman for Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department said that the weather information of Tai Mei Tuk automatic weather station helped the public to plan their trips to Plover Cove Country Park and Pat Sin Leng Country Park.

The Tai Mei Tuk automatic weather station provides the latest temperature readings round-the-clock. The public can access the information at the Observatory's "Regional Weather in Hong Kong" webpage (www.hko.gov.hk/wxinfo/ts/index.htm) and the mobile version webpage (m.hko.gov.hk/wxreport/region.htm). They can also call the Observatory's "Dial-a-Weather" hotline at 187 8200. "MyObservatory", the smartphone weather service application, will also make available the temperature information of the Tai Mei Tuk automatic weather station in its next update.
