Network Time Service

New item Synchronization of PC clocks for Windows users

        The Hong Kong Observatory operates a Network Time Server to enable synchronization of computers with the Hong Kong Observatory standard time. The public can now access the time service through the Internet Time Server of the Observatory at stdtime.gov.hk. The server supports NTP, SNTP, Time and Daytime internet protocols. Besides, IPv6 users may also access NTP service through time.hko.hk

        To make use of the time service, a synchronization software has to be installed on your computer. A list of popular synchronization software can be found at

        Among these software, the following packages have been tested and confirmed to work with the Observatory time server:


bullet  Dimension 4      bullet   Meinberg NTP  

        Please refer to the installation instructions accompanying the software.  To synchronize your computer with the Hong Kong standard time, simply designate the Observatory Internet Time Server - stdtime.gov.hk as the network time server in your software.
