Under the "Science in the Public Service" Campaign, the Observatory opened the King's Park Meteorological Station to the public for the first time today and drew numerous patrons. Colleagues and volunteers of the Friends of the Observatory arrived at King's Park early in the morning and prepared for the opening. The public including scouts started coming in after 10 o' clock. They liked our work very much, in particular, the automatic sounding system, remote-control mini-vehicle for radiological survey, solar radiation and traditional meteorological instruments. Kids, however, enjoyed playing the "Rainstorm Cloud Shooting Game" and winning the "Weather Family" souvenirs most.

"A lot of preparation has gone into the open day of the meteorological station.  Thanks to the devotion of the colleagues and Friends of the Observatory, our work has won the public's appreciation and our efforts have not been in vain," said Senior Scientific Officer Mr Tsui Kit-chi.

How the sunshine recorder works arouse a lot of interest amongst students
