in Kyoto Protocol Seminar, Macao

The "Seminar on implementation of Kyoto Protocol in Macao" was held at the University of Macao on 17 December.  Mr. Leung Yin-kong, Scientific Officer of the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO), gave a lecture on climate change in the seminar.  Mr. Leung illustrated the immediate effects of climate change in Hong Kong with large amount of scientific data and practical examples.  Interspersed with wit and humour, he also introduced the work of HKO in scientific research and social awareness promotion on climate change conducted in the past few years.  Participants recognized the contribution of the HKO in enhancing citizens' awareness of climate change and in its promotion of energy conservation.  In particular, they highly commended HKO staff's efforts in popularizing difficult scientific concepts into messages relevant to peoples' daily life.

The seminar was jointly organized by the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau and the University of Macao, and hosted by the Macao SAR Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Mr. Lau Si-io.  Apart from HKO, the seminar was attended by over 200 senior officers, experts, academic professionals and university undergraduates from the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Macao, Macao SAR Government , Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau, the University of Macao, Beijing Climate Centre and the Guangdong Meteorological Bureau.
