  • Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Meteorological Co-operation Meeting and Technical Conference

As the new year started, the 23rd co-operation meeting and 32nd technical conference amongst the meteorological authorities of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao were held at Macao on 8 and 9 January 2018. Representatives from the China Meteorological Administration also attended the meeting.

Through this annual meeting, the three parties of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao summed up the achievements in meteorological operation in the past year and looked forward to future development opportunities, including numerical modelling applications, equipment maintenance and development, data exchange, big data applications, smart city development as well as disaster prevention and mitigation, etc. The meeting also made discussions from various perspectives on the meteorological development plan of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area.

As Super Typhoon Hato hit the Pearl River Delta last year, tropical cyclone related research and analysis was one of the focuses of this year’s conference. In addition, meteorological experts from the three parties also presented a number of papers on topics such as rainstorm and precipitation, public weather service, new forecasting techniques, etc, fostering exchange and learning between the participants.
