Director of the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO), Mr. Shun Chi-ming, met the Administrator of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) in Guangzhou at the biennial high-level meeting between CMA and HKO on 26 November 2016. Representatives from the Meteorological Centre and the Office of Air Traffic Control Industry of the Civil Aviation Administration of China also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, CMA and HKO reviewed the cooperation since 2014, and agreed that very significant achievements had been made in meteorological data exchange and communications, weather forecasting and warning techniques, weather serive product development, climate change assessment, regional and international cooperation, exchange visits, etc. The meeting also discussed in detail future cooperation projects, and agreed to seize the opportunity brought by the “Belt and Road Initiative”, the establishment of “Asian Aviation Weather Centre” and the big data era. In particular, further cooperation will be made in weather data exchange, aviation weather services, regional weather forecast and warning, and international affairs, with a view to advancing the regional and international weather service development.
