  • Voluntary Service Event – "5.20 Love at the Observatory"

  • Wednesday, 13th June 2018

The Hong Kong Observatory and the Agency for Volunteer Service collaborated for the first time, together with the Hong Kong Volunteer Awardees Society led by Ms Chea Shuk Mui and volunteer team of Caritas Chai Wan Marden Foundation Secondary School, bringing a meaningful Sunday to children with special needs from the Intellectually Disabled Education and Advocacy League (IDEAL) on 20 May 2018.

Children and volunteers visited the Observatory facilities, including the 1883 Building, the Central Forecasting Office and the Exhibition Hall to learn about tropical cyclone signals and different meteorological instruments. They also photographed as TV weather presenters in the studio.

After the visit, children and volunteers enjoyed performances and mass games. Outstanding volunteer Mr Chow Man-fai led the audience to do warm-up exercises. Popular singer Mr Phil Lam sang for everyone and went to the crowd to shake hands with the audience which drove the site atmosphere to climax. Children also received lovely cartoon balloons from "balloon master" Mr Andy Liu in the quiz game session.
