  • Tsunami Warning Centres in the South China Sea Region Meeting in Hanoi

The Seventh Meeting of the Regional Working Group on Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System in the South China Sea Region under the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Pacific Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (ICG/PTWS) was held in Hanoi, Vietnam on 6-8 March 2018. The meeting was hosted by the Institute of Geophysics, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and attended by representatives of national tsunamic warning centres from Brunei, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Vietnam.

Under the chairmanship of Mr Chan Sai-tick, Senior Scientific Officer of the Hong Kong Observatory, the meeting discussed measures to further improve the exchange of tsunami information within the region and reviewed the progress of the establishment of the South China Sea Tsunami Advisory Centre led by the State Oceanic Administration of China, with full operation of the Centre expected in the second half of 2019.
