  • Collaboration and Exchange Meeting between State Oceanic Administration and Hong Kong Observatory

To implement the collaboration items discussed at the 4th bilateral meeting between the State Oceanic Administration (SOA) and the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) held in Hong Kong in February 2017, Mr. Chan Sai-tick, Senior Scientific Officer, and Mr. Dickson Lau, Senior Experimental Officer were in Beijing to attend a bilateral collaboration and exchange meeting on 19-20 October.

The meeting fully discussed and exchanged views on specific collaboration items including the application of ocean satellite data, sharing of data from marine observation buoys, and the construction of tsunami warning and mitigation systems for the South China Sea.

As the Chairman of the Regional Working Group for the South China Sea Region under the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Pacific Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System, Mr. Chan Sai-tick also took the opportunity to see at first hand the progress being made in establishing the “South China Sea Tsunami Advisory Center” in Beijing and to exchange experience with SOA experts in earthquake and tsunami monitoring systems.
