The annual cooperation meeting and technical seminar among the meteorological authorities of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao were held in Guangzhou on 20-21 April 2016.
Over the years, the three meteorological services have been cooperating actively through this meeting platform, achieving fruitful results in a number of areas, including meteorological data exchange and sharing, automatic weather station and lightning location network, meteorological monitoring over the South China Sea, development and application of numerical weather prediction (NWP), tropical cyclone monitoring and research, and development of the Greater Pearl River Delta Weather Website.
The meeting reviewed the progress of the three parties in the past year and discussed the direction of future collaboration in the coming years. After the meeting, representatives from the three weather services planted a “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation Tree” at the newly opened “Pearl River Delta Small and Medium Scale Meteorological Disaster Monitoring and Warning Center”.
At the technical seminar, a total of 28 scientific reports were presented, covering various meteorological research and application topics including NWP, meteorological systems, extreme weather, tropical cyclones, remote sensing and climate change.
