  • Director of the Hong Kong Observatory visited China Meteorological Administration and Civil Aviation Administration of China

Mr. CM Shun, Director of the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) and Ms. SY Lau, Assistant Director of HKO visited China Meteorological Administration (CMA) and Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) Air Traffic Management Bureau (ATMB) on 21-22 June 2017 at Beijing, China.

During the visit to CMA, Mr. Shun and the Director of the Geophysical and Meteorological Bureau of Macao Dr. Fong Soi-kun were received by Ms. Liu Yaming, Administrator of CMA. Mr. Shun then had a meeting with Ms. Jiao Meiyan, Deputy Administrator and other senior officials of CMA to exchange views on a number of topics, including cooperation in the international arena such as the establishment of Global Meteo Alarm System (GMAS) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), “Belt and Road” and regional disaster prevention and mitigation meteorological initiatives, information exchange and the use of products under the Asian Aviation Meteorological Centre (AAMC). They then visited the National Satellite Meteorological Centre of CMA to understand the latest development of Fengyun-4 satellites.

In the afternoon of 22 June, Mr. Shun, Mr. Wang Zhiqing, Deputy Administrator of CAAC, Ms. Jiao and other senior officials of CAAC and CMA held the first meeting of the Senior Management Task Force Meeting of AAMC. The meeting reviewed the progress made by the three parties since the signing of the agreement on joint establishment the AAMC in October 2016, and set the future direction of development and international publicity campaign.
