Online Tool Developed for Global Tropical Cyclone Forecasters

5 April 2013

The Tropical Cyclone Forecaster Website of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), developed and hosted by the Hong Kong Observatory on behalf of WMO, is in operation.

The main purpose of the website is to assist weather forecasters around the world in gaining access to a comprehensive source of tropical cyclone information useful for operational forecasting. The website serves as a portal of real-time information as well as forecast products concerning tropical cyclone development, movement, intensity and structure.

The project was initiated by WMO and the Observatory's assistance was invited in late 2011, in recognition of the latter's dedicated knowledge in both operational forecasting and web development. WMO, as assisted by the Observatory, will continue to enhance the website along with the availability of new data and products.
