Introduction:
The HKO e-Bulletin on Educational Resources is published on-line every three months. It covers in layman terms various interesting topics related to weather phenomena and popular science, as well as new developments in science and technology including those at the Observatory. We welcome your views and suggestions.
In this issue, there is one special article related to the atmospheric optical phenomenon - "Sun dog". The beautiful photos were provided by a citizen in connection with his enquiry of the phenomenon. Owing to the citizen's sensitive scientific awareness, sharing spirit and common views on promoting popular science, it aroused the author's motivation to write the article for enhancing the public's understanding and interest on the related natural phenomenon. In order to help readers solving the mystery, the author organized the content with many supplementary illustrative diagrams, trying to write it in relatively simple terms and explain the phenomenon more in depth.
