Analysis of emergency samples at King's Park radiation laboratory

Environmental samples, including airborne particulates, radio-iodine, total deposition and soil samples collected at mobile survey sites, fixed radiation monitoring stations and designated fire stations are analysed by the Radiation Laboratory at King's Park for their radiation levels. Gamma Spectrometry System, Liquid Scintillation Counting System, Low Level Alpha-Beta Counting System and Alpha Spectrometry System are used to measure the radioactivity in the environmental samples. Preliminary gamma spectrometry analysis results will be available within 15-minutes upon delivery of the samples. All measurement results will be telemetered to the HKO Headquarters for assessing nuclear accident consequences and considering necessary countermeasures.
