Tropical Cyclone Bulletin

Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force.

This means that a tropical cyclone now centred within about 800 kilometres of Hong Kong may affect us.

At midnight, Tropical Storm Lionrock was estimated to be about 190 kilometres north-northeast of Hong Kong (near 23.9 degrees north 114.7 degrees east) and is forecast to move west at about 18 kilometres per hour crossing inland Guangdong.

Severe Tropical Storm Lionrock made landfall over the coast of southern Fujian yesterday morning and weakened into a tropical storm. Tropical Storm Lionrock crossed inland Guangdong afterwards. The Observatory issued Standby Signal No.1 in the evening. Locally, it was mainly cloudy with a few showers. Around 10 millimetres of rainfall were recorded over parts of the territory. The rainbands associated with Tropical Storm Lionrock will continue to affect the south China coast in the next couple of days.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Friday, 3 Sep 2010)

Cloudy with rain and squally thunderstorms. Rain will be heavy at times. Temperatures will range between 26 and 29 degrees. Moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, occasionally strong over offshore waters. There will be swells over the sea.

Outlook : Remaining rainy on Saturday. Sunny intervals in the following couple of days.
