The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force.
This means that a tropical cyclone now centred within about 800 kilometres of Hong Kong may affect us.
At midnight, Tropical Storm Lionrock was estimated to be about 190 kilometres north-northeast of Hong Kong (near 23.9 degrees north 114.7 degrees east) and is forecast to move west at about 18 kilometres per hour crossing inland Guangdong.

Severe Tropical StormLionrock made landfall over the coast of southern Fujian yesterday morning and weakened into a tropical storm. Tropical StormLionrock crossed inland Guangdong afterwards. The Observatory issued Standby Signal No.1 last night. Locally, it was mainly cloudy with a few showers. Around 10 millimetres of rainfall were recorded over parts of the territory. The rainbands associated with Tropical StormLionrock will continue to affect the south China coast in the next couple of days.
