Aviation Meteorology Training for the World

In November 2004, the Observatory organised a training course on aviation meteorological services to ten meteorologists from Bangladesh, Brunei, China, Iran, Laos, Lithuania, Myanmar, Uruguay, Vanuatu and Zimbabwe under the Voluntary Cooperation Programme (VCP) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The 1-week course covered aviation weather forecasting, observation and service delivery. These meteorologists are expected to take leading roles in the provision of aviation weather services in their countries after the training.

World Meteorological Organization (WMO) established the Voluntary Cooperation Programme (VCP) in 1967 to provide assistance to Member countries in the form of equipment, expert services, training and education to meet their needs. Sharing the "spirit of working together" of WMO, the Observatory had contributed to the VCP in the last few years by offering a variety of training courses to Member countries.

Mr. W.H. Lui introduced to the participants to the Observatory's web-based Aviation Meteorological Information Dissemination System (AMIDS).
