New ground reception system of high resolution satellites installed

A new satellite ground reception system has recently been set up for receiving the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data broadcast from satellites of the Earth Observing System, viz. Terra and Aqua. Each satellite usually passes over Hong Kong twice a day, one during the day and one at night. MODIS provides greater volume of high resolution data which are useful to meteorology and other geophysical related sciences.

The above image was captured on 30 June 2004. An intense convective cell was located to the south of Hong Kong while it was generally hazy around the Pearl Estuary.
