The following photograph was taken at around 3 p.m. on 10 April 2004 during a hike over the western part of Lantau Island. Wave clouds were seen above the hilltops of Lantau Peak and Nei Lek Shan. These clouds are believed to be formed by wave motions in the southerly airflow, where moisture in the air condenses into water droplets as a result of upward motions. It was not particularly windy on that day, so even though wave clouds were observed over Lantau, aircraft operating at the airport to the north did not experience any windshear or turbulence.
